V kostce je Ashran (konečně) kompletní PvP zóna, která nikdy nekončí a řeže se to tam nonstop, 24/7.
Je větší než Alterac Valley (AV), instancovaná, meziserverová, ale při vstupu do zóny se nic nenahrává (aby to vypadalo, jako běžná zóna).
Zatím je cap pro počty 100 vs 100 hráčů, ale bude se zvyšovat dle limitů hardware.
Hlavní změnou oproti Wintergrasp a Tol Barad je, že zóna není a nebude přímo balancovaná v počtu hráčů. Hráči mohou vstoupit, nezávisle na frakci (dokud není cap). Balance se provádí výběrem vhodných serverů, čili nepřímo. Když ale lidi nepřijdou bojovat, protivníků bude prostě víc.
V Ashranu jsou doslova tuny úkolů jak pro hlavní zerg, tak i pro skupinky či jednotlivce, veškeré akce i třeba PvE questy či sběr fragmentů ovlivňují hlavní bitku (bonusy pro hráče, spawnuté stráže, bojoví šampióni, atd.
Hlavní pevnosti aliance a hordy jdou dobít a kompletně vypálit a vyrabovat a po krátkém čase na loot padlých nepřátel (ano, ze zabitých horďáků opravdu už také něco padá !) se zóna resetne do základního nastavení.

One of my most memorable moments of world pvp before battlegrounds were introduced into WoW was when my guildmates were farming for the frostsaber mount in Winterspring. They were being ganked by a Horde guild over and over, so some of our guildies went to help them out. The Horde guild responded by sending more of their guildmates. Then other random guilds joined in. Eventually, there were so many players in that area we crashed the server.
The spirit of that experience is what we’re trying to go for in a zone like Ashran.
